Steve Esselaar

Principal Telecommunications Consultant

 

 

An experienced policy and regulatory consultant, Mr. Esselaar specialises in telecommunications services for emerging markets and developing countries. He joined the Intelecon team in the autumn of 2008, having most recently worked as an advisor to Council at the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) and as an Associate at the LINK Centre, University of the Witwatersrand.

Mr. Esselaar, who holds an MBA, has been a key consultant in a wide variety of projects around the African continent, including m-banking surveys, VSAT demand studies, small business surveys, as well as surveys of institutional capacity in ICT education across six African countries and ICT infrastructure investment analyses.

Recently Mr. Esselaar has increasingly focused on the development of ICT applications such as mobile banking. He has consulted to Standard Bank on the development of a low cost m-banking product in South Africa and has several published research articles on m-banking.
