Equipment Vendor Market Assessment
This project was a seminar conducted for a group of equipment vendors in the Middle East. The project provided an overview of the potential size and nature of rural telecom markets and analysis techniques to assess market potential in countries with different economic, demographic and geographic characteristics. Recent developments in technology trends were included covering mobile cellular, wireless local loop (WLL), satellite, global mobile personal communications (GMPCS), Multi-Access Point to Multipoint (PMP), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), WiLAN and WiFi. Potential future technologies were also addressed including Mesh Networks, Free Space Optics, and new, small customer terminal devices. Intelecon introduced its Rural ICT Toolkit, study achievements made possible by the Toolkit, and identified current and upcoming Universal Access Fund initiatives to provide a planning context for equipment design and configuration and potential vendor marketing opportunities.
